Little Alters

I used the idea of worship as my driving concept; not solely in the sense of theology or religion but how culture has reacted to prominent figures throughout time to create their icons. I see these public figures mostly as a misrepresentation or an idealized form meant to elevate the subject and coerce the public into worship. I am also attempting to show the parallels between popular culture and religion. Throughout this project I will be juxtaposing figures and allowing for comments on obvious differences and new thoughts on similarities. This concept was inspired by my own religious failings, the Bible and reality TV. Each subject has no more emphasis or importance on the ‘sacred’ than the regarded. This series strives to force the viewer to rethink society’s obsessions with pop icons, reexamine religion and possibly even faith itself. The overall goal of the work is to amuse the viewer as well as help them reconsider the ridiculous notion of worshiping human beings.
